"Unseen Champion" — Adaptive Football in Action!
Project Title: "Unseen Champion" — Adaptive Football in Action! Implementation Period: Sept - Dec 2025. Location: Central Secondary School for the Deaf, Naxal. Date of Championship: 20 December 2025.
The project marked a significant milestone in advancing inclusive sports in Nepal by empowering young deaf girls through structured football training, improved sporting facilities, and a culminating competitive championship celebrating ability, confidence, and teamwork.
Implementation Partners: Together for Nepal (TFN), ENGAGE Nepal (technical support), and CBM Global Disability Inclusion (funding support).
Over 32 deaf female students were directly engaged, with more than 12 intensive football training camps conducted over four months. Three emerging coaches — Mahesh Rai, Arun Gurung, and Samir Kadka — led the training sessions.
A dedicated changing room was established with lockers, benches, and clothes hangers. Basic gym equipment and coaching materials were provided, including footballs, cones, nets, pumps, tactical whiteboards, and dumbbells.
Four teams competed in the championship: Deaf Empower Team, Lily FC, Deaf FCB, and Stars Deaf. Three non-deaf national-level players served as mentors. The final match resulted in a 0-3 victory for Deaf Empower Team. Over 20 first-time players participated in organized football through this initiative.
The project fostered sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and perseverance while expanding opportunities for deaf girls facing systemic barriers to sports participation.
